Black Lake Organic
Nursery

Black Lake Organic Nursery lives up to its name. All of our food crops (vegetable starts, herbs and even flowers) are grown organically from the start. The remainder of our nursery is woody plants (trees and shrubs), some herbaceous perennial flowers, ferns, and ground cover plants.

We specialize in native plants of Western Washington, but we also offer a limited selection of non-native ornamentals. With some exceptions our woody plants are generally purchased as seedlings or cutting starts from wholesale nurseries that may or may not use organic methods of propagation. Upon arrival, the plants are cleaned-up and repotted in our own custom-blended Mineral Augmented Organic potting mixes. From there they are held in reserve until established or rooted-out prior to sale. No chemicals are used for pest control. Occasional pest or disease problems are treated using only organic-approved materials.

We offer quality grown, healthy plants guaranteed to grow or your money will be refunded within a year of purchase, provided you take reasonable care of the plant and use non-chemical methods to grow it. Owing to our limited space and facilities we do not attempt to offer many conventional nursery plants, exotic plants, highly-bred plants or indoor plants.

Vegetable Starts

Black Lake Organic is known for a wide selection of quality, organic-grown vegetable starts available from early spring in a succession through to fall for winter gardening. We were growing these starts by organic methods long before certified organic legislation and requirements were passed. Because of the Mineral Augmented Organic approach developed in formulating our potting mixes, we provide nutritionally superior, healthy transplants you won't find elsewhere.

We do NOT "get in" our vegetable transplants. We grow them at B.L.O. In addition to vegetable starts, we offer organic-grown herbs and a limited selection of annual and perennial flowers. Some of the latter transplants we grow ourselves and some we purchase from other local organic growers due to lack of growing facilities, manpower, etc. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. We will replace or refund any start that you feel failed to perform due to some fault on our part.

As an example of our offerings, we sell 40 some varieties of tomato plants, about 15 varieties of hot and sweet peppers, and 4 varieties of eggplant plants. Yes, eggplants will grow here.

Remember, we’re open from 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday, closed major holidays.
