Fertilizers Garden Supplies Pest Controls Seeds Handmade Crafts

B.L.O. carries a wide selection of natural media for seed starting and for making your own soil-less potting mixes. Soluble, liquid fertilizers such as liquid seaweed/kelp and liquid fish (which we carry) are most appropriate for soil-less seed-starting and potting mixes. We recommend and use Black Gold Seedling Mix and Sunshine Germination Mix in the first stage of our propagation program as the most appropriate texture and composition for seed emergence and to minimize disease risk. Both of these mixes use all natural materials and are OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) certified.

When the seedlings reach first true leaves stage, we pot on up into special soil-based media containing top soil, compost, peat moss, pumice or perlite, vermiculite, etc. as the base media; plus several natural rock powder & organic plant and animal meals that are variations on the ingredients found in our famous B.L.O.O.M. Specialty Organic Fertilizer Blends. All the ingredients (except soil) for making your own similar mixes (soil-less and soil-based) are available at B.L.O. and we hope to offer our custom-made versions of the potting mixes in the near future. Prices on the above natural and organic materials are posted at the store and available by calling B.L.O. at (360) 786-0537.

Soil testing is critical to growing quality, healthy plants resistant to pests and diseases. Professional Soil Testing is a prominent feature of B.L.O.’s custom-focused services. Soil samples collected according to the sampling procedures provided by B.L.O. are sent to a professional laboratory for analysis and results are returned within a week. The results are combined with questionnaire information about your gardening site to give tailored recommendations on specific types and amounts of organic fertilizers to apply and other actions that will bring your soil to peak production capability. A free 4 page soil testing leaflet with sampling instructions is available at the store. Samples may be brought or mailed to B.L.O. for forwarding to the laboratory.
